Women represent the fastest-growing segment of incarcerated people in the U.S., increasing dramatically over the past 25 years.
Currently, there are approximately 225,000 women in U.S. jails and prisons. When we include women on parole and probation, 1.2 million are under criminal justice system supervision. To serve these women, we’ve been steadily expanding our programs for incarcerated women, including new “remote” programs begun in Alabama during the pandemic. We want to do more.
Over the last decade, we’ve distributed more than 33,000 copies of our book, Yoga A Path for Healing and Recovery, free-of-charge to incarcerated men and women who write us to request a copy. We understand though that women’s healthcare needs, including their emotional and mental health, differ from those of men. To address these specific needs, we are pleased to announce we will be publishing an all-new book for incarcerated women entitled Freedom from the Inside at the beginning of 2021.
This new book focuses on specific practices incarcerated women need to heal, and includes testimonials from women in our programs sharing the benefits they’ve received from these practices.
After publishing the book in January, we will immediately start distributing it, free-of-charge, to the hundreds of women prisoners who regularly write to us requesting a yoga guide. To promote the book’s availability, we plan to send complimentary copies to the staff at women’s correctional facilities, letting them know how to obtain copies in bulk to distribute in their facilities.

Your donation puts Freedom from the Inside in the hands of the women who write to us requesting a copy.
Help us reach our goal to raise $20,000 before the end of 2020. To show appreciation for your support, we will send a PDF copy of the book when it’s released to anyone donating $100 or more before the end of 2020.
