Mary Cronin – PYP San Luis Obispo CA
Mary Cronin, MA,RYT-200, TCTSY-F has had a life-long interest in working with marginalized communities. Post high school, for four years she worked in Amsterdam, the Netherlands with a volunteer organization that provided support for addicts and the homeless. After receiving her B.A. in International Studies at Portland State University, she intensified her own yoga practice while attending Columbia Teachers College to receive her Master’s Degree in Comparative International Education. When she moved to the Central Coast of California in 2016, she completed her 200 hour RYT. A year later, Mary started to volunteer with a local Restorative Justice organization, Restorative Partners, as a yoga instructor at the county jail. Through the organization, Mary attended a PYP training in 2019 and afterward was asked to be a part of the founding chapter of PYP San Luis Obispo. Aside from teaching yoga at the prison herself, she works with an amazing group of facilitators dedicated to the principles of restorative justice. Mary now works full-time as the mentor coordinator for Restorative Partners, assisting formerly incarcerated individuals in finding local support. She is also involved with facilitating staff yoga, leading regular meditation and teaches yoga at the organization’s sober living homes. In March 2021, Mary completed the 300-hour Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Facilitator program. In her free moments, she spends time at the beach, kayaks, runs, cooks fantastic meals and reads really terrible fiction.
