If you have a question about our training that is not listed below, please email us at email@example.com.
Can I request a training in my city?
Our trainings are strategically scheduled to support our Chapters and in areas where there are a significant number of incarcerated people. If you are interested in having a training in your area, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Can I say I am a Prison Yoga Project facilitator after attending a training?
Established Prison Yoga Project Chapters have an onboarding process for new facilitators that includes interviews followed by "on-the-job" mentorship. We are not able to accept everyone who applies or who have attended a training.
If there is not yet a Chapter in your area, you may choose to start a program of your own and you can reference this training in your credentials and qualifications, but you would not be able to say that you represent Prison Yoga Project.
That said, we'd love to have you with us, so if you are interested in establishing an official Prison Yoga Project Chapter, please contact us.
Do I have to be a yoga teacher/therapist or meditation teacher to attend?
The training is open to anyone interested regardless of experience or training. To volunteer with us as a teacher we do require that a person have at least a 200-hour yoga teacher training certification, or extensive experience teaching yoga and/or mindfulness. There are many opportunities to volunteer in ways other than teaching. Because of the sensitive nature of our work, we do screen our volunteers and not everyone who attends the training can be guaranteed an opportunity to volunteer with Prison Yoga Project.
Do you offer scholarships for the trainings?
Yes, we offer a limited number of partial scholarships ($100 off) for each training. To request an application, please send an email to email@example.com.
The scholarship application is due no later than four weeks before the date of the training. Recipients will be notified within one week of the application due date and must register within one week after notification to ensure a spot will be held. Scholarship recipients are required to provide feedback after the training.
I’m not interested in teaching in a prison or jail, should I take this training?
There are insights and information this training offers that will benefit any yoga teacher, particularly those who are not yet familiar with trauma-informed yoga and those who are looking to offer yoga outside a studio environment to any group facing challenging circumstances.
